Ford
gave the Focus an overhaul for 2012. It comes in a variety of models,
with the Titanium line offering the most performance potential. It's
available in both sedan and hatchback body styles, which come standard
with 17-inch sport aluminum wheels.
All
2012 Focus models get their pep from a 2-liter direct-injection inline
four-cylinder engine that kicks out 160 horsepower. Standard on the
Titanium is an automatic six-speed Powershift transmission that gets 28
mpg city, 38 mpg highway and 31 mpg combined. An optional five-speed
manual loses some efficiency, attaining 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway and
30 mpg combined. Expect this sporty car to reach 60 mph from a dead stop
in around 8.7 seconds with an automatic and 8.3 with a manual,
according to Edmunds.
Antilock
brakes, stability control, six air bags, push-button start and the
MyFord Touch -- a touch-screen for entertainment, navigation and other
car controls -- are standard. Ford also offers a handling package on the
Titanium, with 18-inch alloy wheels, sport-tuned suspension, summer
performance tires and a full-size spare tire.
